My reflection
My overall experience to the relaxation exercise was a great one. I felt at peace, even though I live in NYC where everything is a distraction. The voice of the speaker was very soothing and that is a plus when you are trying to relax. Also the choice of music was beneficial to help relax. I positioned myself to lay down on my back on my bed, with my hands on my chest. When I started to think to myself about bringing the warmth to my hands by letting the flow of blood stream to this area of my body, I did feel a difference in the temperature of my hands. I naturally have cold hands and feet, and so by doing this exercise, I was amazed by how warm my hands felt. It is true when things occur to our bodies, it's because our minds tell it to happen... just like the saying "it's all in the mind". Our minds do have an effect and control of our bodies. Also, I was hoping that this exercise won't make me feel tired an fatigued because I do tend to sleep at any given opportunity such as when I lay down on my bed; but I did not feel tired, I guess it's because I told my mind to feel energize! I will definitely try this technique over and over again, especially when I feel restless, overwhelmed and/or stressed - just to make sure it really works. Once I see the effects for my self is consistant, I can truly feel good about telling others about this relaxation technique!

Hi Welna,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your experience.
I also found the exercise to be both relaxing and energizing. And, I too was surprised to finish it without feeling sleepy.
You mentioned the saying "it's all in the mind." Do you think that the warmth and heaviness many of us experienced were due to actual physiological changes, or do you think it was our imaginations? I am really on the fence about that. I know I felt the changes, but I have a hard time believing that my mind could so easily influence my blood flow. I am open to this idea though. I look forward to more activities and to reading your reflections!
Happy blogging!
Laura
hey laura, I think we just need to try this more than once in order to believe in this. As humans we need convincing. We cannot confide into one thought or idea without repetitive results. I honestly did feel the warmth because as I have mentioned before, I have cold hands and feet and did feel the warmth in my hands. However I did not feel the heaviness. Oh well, I guess practice makes perfect!!!
DeleteHello Welna,
ReplyDeleteI agree, it was refreshing, however, I was already quite tired from staying up the night before, so I was falling asleep to the relaxing music and his voice. :D It's funny how we relate sleeping to music, and soothing voices put us to sleep. I know that sometimes when I can't sleep, I click on the t.v. and either keep one of my favorite shows on all night, or I turn on the music station on there to put me to sleep. There are so many techniques out there to relieve stress, and I think that this meditation exercise was a great one!
lol! you're funny Sheena, I feel your pain, I am always tired and sleepy. Music is a very powerful source of life. It helps us carry out whatever end results we are hoping to get. Example, the music that is paired with this Journey On relaxation technique, is a fine choice. It helps bring out the purpose of the idea, which is to help us relax. I will definitely try techniques like this on my spare time and see if this really works, this way i can use this in my professional setting and with my family... the boyfriend needs this! (lol)
